The introduction of IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool — with HATS Technology (WDHT) brings together IBM's premier refacing technologies. WDHT gives you the flexibility to use both the WebFacing Tool and Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) technologies to achieve your refacing goals. You will still find the familiar WebFacing Tool and HATS Toolkit included in WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries (WDSC) and WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries (WDSC AE). WDHT acts as a runtime "enablement key" for applications created with these tools.
WebFacing Tool technology
IBM WebFacing Tool quickly, easily, and cost effectively generates Web interfaces to 5250 applications.
- Generates a new, fully functional Web user interface based on Data Description Specification (DDS) source code
- Comprehensive DDS keyword support
- Web-enabled response times comparable to green-screen applications
HATS technology
HATS includes a default transformation engine that quickly and easily generates a dynamic Web interface from a 5250 data stream. The resulting Web interface can also be customized with the HATS Toolkit.
- Browser interface to host applications
- Navigation of host applications improves and generates portal interfaces
- No access to source code is required
Using WebFacing Tool and HATS technologies together
By leveraging the WebFacing Tool extension in WDSC V6.0.1, you can get "on-the-fly" conversion of 5250 applications or system screens in WebFaced applications. Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) is not required for HATS applications starting with i5/OS V5R4.
The WebFacing Tool in WDSC and WDSC AE continues to offer the same capability as in previous releases. To leverage the new WebFacing Tool extensions, you need to purchase WDHT for deployment to production. The HATS Toolkit included with WDSC and WDSC AE continues to function as previous releases. HATS applications require WDHT to deploy to production.
